AMP-HR METERS

The majority of electroplating processes utilize direct current to deposit metallic ions from a plating bath on to a part surface. The metallic deposit thickness is related to several factors. A few of those factors are, current density, time, efficiency of the process bath, and the surface area of the substrate being plated.

Most proprietary plating processes require periodic additions of maintenance components to the process bath, in order to continue to provide quality plated parts. As quality control standards continue to become more stringent, most plating facilities are utilizing as much automatic control equipment as possible to ensure consistent quality and to control operating costs.

Amp-hr meters can be used on the D.C. rectifier being used on the plating bath, to track the total current applied to the plating bath over a given period of time. This information allows the customer to make additions of maintenance components in order to keep the plating bath properly operating, and to control the quality of the product being produced.

Automatic additions can also be made by chemical metering pumps, which would be activated by the amp-hr meter mentioned above. This allows for more frequent, smaller additions to be made to the plating bath. This eliminates large swings in the plating bath parameters, therefore producing consistent electroplated parts.
