The use of protective coatings on concrete floors offers
numerous advantages. These coatings will protect a floor
from chemical attack, reduce wear and tear on the concrete,
make clean-up easier, reduce operator fatigue, and provide
an improved plant appearance. Liquid epoxies, flexible
PVC liners, and anti-fatigue mats can be utilized depending
on your needs.
I. Plant Floor
Liquid epoxy coatings are easy to apply. After the
proper surface preparation, the liquid epoxy system
can either be brushed, rolled, or sprayed on the surface.
Skid-proof additives can be added to reduce the possibility
of slipping. Anti-fatigue mats can be used around machine
or process line areas to reduce fatigue, provide a safer
footing, and reduce floor wear and tear.
II. Secondary Containment
Flexible PVC sheet can be installed to provide a barrier
between the concrete floor and any chemical spills.
These liners do not require surface preparation and
are easy to install. Flexible PVC liners are recommended
only for non-traffic areas. Liquid epoxy coatings can
also be used, but do require some surface preparation.
The concrete floor must be etched or blasted, primed,
and the liquid epoxy applied. Epoxy coatings do eliminate
the possibility of tear or puncture damage, and can
be used in high-traffic areas.
