CLEANERS

There are numerous applications for proprietary cleaners in the metal finishing industry today. Cleaning is the most critical step in any metal finishing operation. Proprietary cleaners are formulated to remove:

  • Rust
  • Tarnish
  • Smut
  • Drawing Compounds
  • Stamping Oils
  • Fingerprints
  • Polishing Compounds
  • Glove Prints
  • Flux from Brazing Operations
  • Corrosion Products
  • Burnishing Compounds
  • Scale (weld or heat-treat)
  • Parafin Based Oils/Waxes
  • Carbon Based Soils
  • Machining Oils
  • Spinning Lubricants
  • Buffing Compounds
  • Metallic Compounds
  • Corrosion-Preventing Compounds
  • Phosphate Coatings
  • Stenciling Inks
  • General Shop Soils

It is important to accurately identify what type of soil or oil is on the part so the proper cleaner can be recommended.

In determining which cleaner is appropriate for the application, the soils/oils and the base metal to be cleaned must be taken into consideration. As a rule, a cleaner should remove soils and oils without etching, dissolving or degrading the base metal surface. For example, a product containing caustic soda would be acceptable for ferrous metals but not for cleaning aluminum alloys, zinc die castings, galvanized steel or some alloys of brass. Products containing caustic soda would attack these non-ferrous surfaces. The proper selection of a cleaner is paramount in any finishing operation.

METALLINE manufactures a full line of cleaners to handle any application. Neutral oil-splitting cleaners are also available for multi-metal applications. These formulations are safe for all metals and the residual oil can be recycled or treated with bioremediation units.

Please use the table below to help select the appropriate soak cleaner for your application.
