RUST PREVENTATIVES
Rust preventatives are used widely throughout the metal
finishing industry. Rust Preventatives are used to provide
a corrosion resistance film. They can also provide some lubricity
and gloss to a part surface.
Rust preventatives can be applied over numerous substrates.
The most common applications are bare steel, black oxide finishes,
or over plated parts that have exposed or un-plated areas,
like tubular steel.
Rust preventatives can be solvent based, water soluble,
or non-contact (VCI) vapor phase packaging. The water soluble
technologies can be synthetic oils, or lacquers with or without
chromium, nitrite based or non-nitrate based corrosion inhibitors.
The solvent based technologies are typically petroleum based
products which contain solvents to help provide a dryer to
the touch film.
